If your idea of heaven is a romantic French chateau with an award-winning restaurant, vineyard, spa...and a stunning golf course, then Chateau de Vigiers is definitely for you

We are delighted to have gone into partnership with the stunning Chateau de Vigiers near Bergerac in southern France to provide an exclusive range of travel packages to the Chateau. Build originally in the late 1590s and only completed in 1627, this beautiful chateau has a history for hospitality going back many centuries. The Chateau offers a selection of accommodation including 11 Suites and 11 bedrooms in the 'Dependence' - a traditional Perigord stone building where each room is individually-styled.

This has been supplemented in the last few years by an extra 40 bedrooms in the neighbouring 'Relais', which has been designed to fit in with the rolling scenery and is modelled on a traditional tobacco-drying barn. These rooms are ideal for golfers as they overlook the Chateau's golfing facilities which comprise of 27 holes designed in 3 9-hole loops, which give golfers the opportunity to play 3 different combinations of 18 holes during their stay. In addition, there is a 6 hole golf academy and driving range, where tuition can be obtained from the resident pro.

Apart from the comfort of the bedrooms and the spectacular golfing options, the Chateau boasts its own exclusive Maria Galland Beauty Spa with swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and treatment rooms, along with tennis courts and extensive walking paths through the peach trees and vineyards.

If all that golf or exhausting pampering has given you an appetite, then the Chateau has both a Brasserie 'Le Chai', along with a fine dining restaurant, 'Les Fresques'. In both, the emphasis is on using the local produce which is in season at the time - when this can include truffles, duck, foie gras and great cheeses, this buying policy does not tend to lead to many complaints !

Whilst the Chateau is a wonderful place where you can 'get away from it all' for a few days, it is an ideal base for exploring the local area, which might include visits to the ancient fortified towns of Saint Emilion and Sarlat, or to the capital of the Perigord Region, Bergerac, which is less than 30 minutes' drive away.

If you want a complete change of scene, then in just over an hour, you can be on the French Atlantic coast at Bordeaux with it stunning beaches and yachting marina - not to mention some of the greatest seafood restaurants in France.

Of course, not self-respecting French chateau would be without its vineyards and Chateau de Vigiers is no exception. The resident wine-maker carefully crafts a selection of excellent reds, whites and roses. He is also on hand to give visitors a guided tour of the vineyards and wine-making facilities as well as conducting tastings and masterclasses for wine enthusiasts.
