Destination Portugal
Destination Portugal is our specialist division providing holidays to all regions of Portugal and its islands. The company joined the World of Experience Tours portfolio in 2011, and all the existing staff moved over to become new members of our team. Between them, they have more than 50 years experience in the travel industry, with more than 40 of these being devoted to promoting Portugal as a destination.
For many people, Portugal is the Algarve. We certainly have nothing against this, especially as we have a comprehensive programme dedicated to the main resorts of the Algarve featuring such great properties as The Four Season Country Club in Quinta do Lago, for which we are the UK's principal agent. However, Portugal is so much more than just the Algarve.
From top to toe, Portugal offers a multitude of different travel experiences, with wonderful river cruising on the Duoro River, fantastic city breaks in Lisbon, Porto, Beja or Evora, traditional hospitality through the Alentejo and along the Atlantic coast to Sesimbra, Setugal and Troia...and of course, the fabulous beaches and golf courses of the Algarve.
If you are looking for interesting cities as a short break, then Portugal has lots to offer. The capital city, Lisbon, is well-served by a range of scheduled and 'no-frills' airlines. It is a city full of culture, magnificent buildings and grandeur. However, it is easily 'accessible' for visitors, who soon fall for its charms. It has great restaurants, bars and cafes, so you need never feel hungry or thirsty. Closeby are such gems as Sintra, Cascais and Estoril which can all be reached easily by an excellent system of public transport.
You can fly there direct, or you can take a beautiful 3 hour train journey up the coast from Lisbon, but the city of Porto also warrants a visit. Naturally, Porto has close ties with the UK and it is still possible to see and visit the great shipping warehouses of Harveys and Sandeman nestled around the harbour. It is, of course, essential that you sample the product upon which so many fortunes were built - tawny, ruby and white, the ports of Porto are as interesting and varied as the city itself.
If you move south from Lisbon, you come into the beautiful Alentejo region - famed for its wines, its 'black pork' and olive oil. It is also centre of Portugal's cork industry, so you are unlikely to find a screw-top anywhere in sight. The Alentejo, and its key cities of Beja and Evora remain undiscovered for many visitors from the UK, but we hope to put that right.
For those of you who are truly interested in Portuguese culture, music and especially its food and wine, we have a selection of dedicated programmes just for you. For our food and wine tours, we have joined forces with TV cook and highly-respected food writer, Sophie Grigson, who will act as your guide on tours to Lisbon and the Alentejo. Follow the links to the Food and Wine Tours section of this website for more information.
And then, of course, we have the Algarve - a favourite destination for sunseekers and golfers at any time of the year. We have access to an extensive selection of properties throughout the Algarve including villas with pools, apartments and, of course, outstanding hotels and country clubs with golf, entertainment and beautiful beaches all within a short distance of Faro's international airport.
